RC (Registration Certificate) transfer is a crucial process involved in the sale or transfer of ownership of a vehicle from one person to another. It is a legal requirement mandated by the government to ensure that the new owner is officially recognized as the rightful owner of the vehicle. The RC serves as proof of registration and ownership of the vehicle and contains essential details such as the vehicle's registration number, chassis number, engine number, owner's details, and vehicle type.

Documentation: Both the seller (current owner) and the buyer (new owner) need to provide specific documents for the RC transfer. These documents usually include the original RC, valid insurance certificate, pollution under control (PUC) certificate, address proof, identity proof, sale agreement, and NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the financier if the vehicle was purchased on loan.

Application Submission: The seller and buyer need to visit the local Regional Transport Office (RTO) or any authorized vehicle registration center to submit the required documents along with a duly filled RC transfer application form.

Verification: The RTO verifies the submitted documents and conducts necessary inspections to ensure the accuracy of the information provided. This step helps prevent fraudulent transactions and ensures compliance with legal requirements.

Transfer of Ownership: Once the verification process is complete, the RTO updates the ownership details in its records and issues a new RC in the name of the buyer. The seller's name is removed from the registration certificate, and the buyer's details are added as the new registered owner of the vehicle.

Payment of Fees: A nominal fee is charged by the RTO for processing the RC transfer application. The fee may vary depending on factors such as the type of vehicle, location, and any additional services availed.

Issuance of New RC: Upon successful completion of the transfer process and payment of fees, the RTO issues a new RC reflecting the updated ownership details. The new owner receives the updated RC, which serves as legal proof of ownership of the vehicle.
